Collaborative Artists' statement     Dori Atlantis was part of the Fresno Feminist Art Program 1971-72 under the direction of Judy Chicago. We had a huge studio where we worked together & often collaborated. Atlantis collaborated with Nancy Youdelman and others as part of the Fresno Feminist Art Group ~1970-71. When Atlantis and many of the artists went to California Institute of the Arts, Atlantis kept those connections. Atlantis documented some of the installations in WOMANHOUSE 1972.

Atlantis met Karen Frimkess Wolff while teaching art to visually impaired adults at The Braille Institute, Los Angeles. Frimkess Wolff had worked with sound engineers to add electronic elements to her earlier installations. Collaborating on a one day installation led to the realization that they had the same work ethics, complimentary skills and interest in the same ideas & subjects.   From 1998-2016, while also working individually, Dori Atlantis and Karen Frimkess Wolff collaborated on site-specific installations involving shelter, landscape and environmental ideas.  Repeat installations were adjusted and changed to fit the space given. Exhibiting in a variety of indoor & outdoor public spaces, their work addressed aural & tactile as well as visual senses. “We combine the languages of art and nature to reflect the transient & fragile qualities of life and landscape forms”. Karen Frimkess Wolff died 2/29/2020.
